How Child Sexual Abuse became a campaign issue in New York

Gary Greenberg tried to take the high road.

He asked state senators to do the right thing. He appealed to their morality and the need to protect children.

It didn’t work.

 Greenberg is a 58-year-old part-owner of the Vernon Downs harness track who lives in Greene County, just south of Albany. He was sexually assaulted as a 7-year-old by a hospital orderly. When he finished describing the horrific and brutal attack, you understand why he has spent a good part of his adult life trying to prevent what happened to him from happening to others.

So when the Child Victims Act was not put up for a vote by the state Legislature earlier this year, Greenberg took it personally
